Break-even and suggested prices ignore the $100 Offsite Ads cap, which only matters above roughly $667 per order.

Why is the transaction fee charged on shipping?

Etsy applies its 6.5% transaction fee to the item price plus the shipping and gift wrap you charge. Raising shipping to cover fees partly backfires.

Should I pick an Offsite Ads rate?

Only for orders Etsy attributes to an Offsite Ad. Use it to stress-test your price. If a 15% fee wipes out your profit, the price is too thin.

Does this include sales tax?

No. In the US the transaction fee excludes sales tax. Processing is charged on the total including tax, so real processing can be a few cents higher.
